CRIS is planning "Communications Rights Summit"
Geneva, 26 February 2003. The communications rights campaign CRIS is planning to organise a one-day "Communications Rights Summit" during the WSIS summit in December. The event will be a space to discuss issue areas which are being neglected or which are not given enough prominence in present WSIS negotiations - such as open source, media concentration, global commons, and interactive communication. It will give opportunity to engage for both disillusioned summit participants and critical non-participants. CRIS stresses that it should not be regarded as a "counter summit", rather as a "side summit". During a meeting with interested groups, additional ideas were raised, for example that of a "communication village" showing practical examples of a grassroots communication society. The idea now is to create a network of the various projects.
